Octos are another word for alternate air source. It is used in case of an out-of-air situation and your buddy needs air. They come in a couple different configurations. The first is a standard configuration that is basically another second stage regulator coming off your first stage regulator and is attached to a quick release on your BCD. Another option is an integrated air source which is a combination inflator and alternate air source. The advantage to this system is the elimination of a hose off of your first stage regulator. Most octos come in bright colors for quick identification under water.
